Using our proven Youtube ads testing & scaling strategy we managed to execute profitable Youtube campaigns. We have spent approximately $1.3M and generated well over $2.6M in revenue for our client with $20,000 per day in ad spend at highest peak. The client is single product Ecom store in spirituality niche.

  • Client had no videos to use so we had to work together to create video producing machinery getting us consistently different variations of videos to use in order to test and find best performing ones

After producing 10+ different variations of videos with different hooks and angles, we have launched an initial test campaign targeting USA geo only with a broad audience using only demographic targeting based on age and gender in order to determine best performing video.

Once the initial campaigns started to provide results, we took the best performing video and created 3 more variations of the video with slightly different hooks and kept testing.

At the same time we have narrowed down the target audience to best performing age/gender/parental/household segments according to initial performance data and the data they had in Google Analytics.

On top of it, we have started testing 3-5 different YT audience targeting in separate campaigns in this particular order:

  1. Custom affinity audiences containing people visiting top 3-5 similar/related websites
  2. Custom affinity audiences containing people searching for relevant/related search terms on Google
  3. Different In-Market audiences
  4. Different Affinity audiences

After a month of testing and collecting data, we were able to isolate several winning audiences with CPA of <$10 along with the best performing segments of broad audience targeting. We kept aggressively scaling the winning campaigns while cutting down under performing ones to the point of spending $20k per day profitability within a target KPIs.

At that point we have started expanding to 10+ different non USA geos using the same testing methodology and were able to expand YT ads profitably to quite a few more countries.

Two main factors contributed to the success of the YT ads for this brand:

Creative Machine

One of the keys was the brand’s willingness to work with us on producing new videos on a monthly basis constantly making new variations and edits. Most of the YT advertisers fail because they don’t have a creative machine churning out creatives. Overall, we have produced and tested 25+ different creative variations.

Extensive audience testing

In this account we have tested well over 50 different campaigns and close to 100 of different audiences. With YT extensive audience testing is required to find the winners and start scaling.
